Stollery Children’s Hospital Pediatric Critical Care Redevelopment
After eight years of challenging work on the Stollery Children’s Hospital Pediatric Critical Care Redevelopment Project, we are happy to announce the final phase has been completed with the official opening of the David Schiff Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This project included a three phase development of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and now the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This included work in both the Mazankowski Heart Institute and the Walter C MacKenzie buildings.
MCW’s mechanical and electrical engineering team played a key role in delivering this world class facility for neonatal and pediatric patients, and their families, from across Northern Alberta. Working along side START Architecture (formerly HFKS) and PCL Construction, innovative design concepts were implemented to remove the stereotypical “hospital” feeling and create spaces that promote healing while providing state of the art care for pediatric and neonatal patients.
When asked about this new development, Verna Yiu, President and CEO of AHS, stated that “Providing patient-focused care is at the heart of everything that we do. Thanks to the support of government, community donors to the Stollery foundation, and hard work over the years from site leadership, our staff and physicians will be able to provide the best pediatric critical care possible.”
Principal and Senior Mechanical Engineer Brad Berteau, offers “It was a privilege to have contributed on this project. What a wonderful facility dedicated to the care of our future generations. Well done team!”
Michael Hale, Contract Administrator, expressed “It was an honour and privilege to work alongside Alberta Infrastructure, Alberta Health Services, START Architecture (HFKS) and the PCL Construction Team, to successfully deliver this world class facility. We are proud to be a part of this team.”
Congratulations to all MCW team members involved and others who had a hand in delivering this outstanding project to patients throughout Northern Alberta.
