Project Description
The $36.4-million Southeast Correctional Centre opened in September of 2012. It is designed to house 180 adult offenders and employs 107 staff, including 80 correctional officers. The building includes full medical and dental facilities as well as a mental health unit. The building was designed to LEED® silver standard and has been designed to maximize energy efficiency and minimize water use. It was also built with environmentally friendly building materials.
Mechanical Systems Description:
Mechanical systems of this facility utilize geothermal energy from a vertical well field comprised of 65 wells, with thermal storage in the building. eated with Fully heated with in-floor radian heating, and controlled with a fully integrated BMS system, the building is equipped with CO2 control, smoke evacuation systems, full lock down evacuation systems, full energy monitoring and reporting systems.
Other Characteristics:
MCW provided full energy modeling, simulation, and reporting to model the building with EE4 to meet LEED Canada energy performance and award the possible LEED Optimized Energy Performance Points. During the course of the design phase, multiple simulations were performed to make sure that the performance goals were being met. The mandatory requirements were satisfied as a prerequisite to the LEED Optimized Performance Points. The possible LEED EA Credit points available for the facility were 5 points. The model was sent to LEED Canada for review.
