Project Description
Toronto Community Housing sought to dramatically increase the energy performance of numerous high and medium-density holdings throughout Toronto while simultaneously seeking to revitalize buildings and improve comfort and liveability for residents. TCH’s objectives resulted in the Building Renewal Project partnership with MCW.
MCW’s services included launching an ambitious stakeholder engagement and awareness campaign designed to clearly-communicate how energy conservation and building renewal measures were going to impact key stakeholders at all 9 sites where measures would be implemented. MCW’s program resulted in over $1.2 million in annual energy costs savings, and substantial improvements to the condition of many facilities’ apartments, lobbies, infrastructure and more.
Project Highlights:
- 4,016 Apartment Units positively-affected by improvements on this project
- $33 Million within the overall $46 Million project budget allocated to address capital renewal projects that also generated energy savings
- TCH Community Engagement strategies such as ‘Dotmocracy’ measure selection and evaluation to ensure stakeholders such as residents were engaged in the project
- Lobby redesigns to refresh buildings from a livability standpoint
