Project Description
This complex comprises two new apartment buildings for seniors. The wood-frame buildings – Cypress and Terrace – contain a total of 139 affordable seniors’ housing apartments. The buildings were constructed on the site of six smaller apartment buildings, built about 50 years ago, that were demolished to make way for the new project. Cypress and Terrace join two existing seniors’ apartment buildings, Kiwanis Court and Kiwanis Manor.
Mechanical Systems Description:
The complex was designed to LEED Silver standards, but did not target certification. MCW designed the systems entirely in Revit. MCW’s mechanical designs conformed to the energy modelling requirements, utilizing air-to-water heat pumps (located on the rooftop) as the main energy source, combined with heat recovery ventilation. The value-effective, low-energy HVAC systems were made possible through the careful selection of materials to ensure compatibility with the ductwork systems, as well as the addition of a standalone glycol injector system.
