Project Description

From emergency response to snow removal and all airside activities in between, the Airside Operations Building (AOB) supports a heightened level of collaboration in order to maintain the highest level of safety for the travelling public and YVR employees. The AOB’s central location allows emergency personnel to respond to any area of the airfield in the shortest possible time.

YVR’s greenest building to date, the AOB utilizes solar power (solar thermal and solar photovoltaic systems) and is built from renewable materials to follow LEED principles. Other green building features include rainwater collection, a geothermal system, and a wind turbine. The facility is designed to post-disaster standards.

Electrical Systems Description:

MCW’s electrical designs include incoming electrical services, fire alarm and emergency power systems, power and lighting, and all low voltage communications systems. YVR participated in BC Hydro’s New Construction Program, which offered financial incentives for the entire process. The photovoltaic installation is grid-tied and consists of 24 modules at 260 watts each (an array power of 6.24 kW).
